A Caesar in Putney at The Normandy

A few weeks ago I went to a pub in Putney, The Normandy, a nice local pub with great atmosphere. I was arriving late due to the traffic and was very happy to sit down and relax in front of the fire with a glas of wine.

I was delighted to see that they served Caesar salads, and they had different combos as well. The chef was great and let me try the salad with both chicken and halloumi cheese.

I give the Caesar: 8/10. It was really nice to be able to customize the salad and have both chicken and halloumi cheese on it.  And I was there in nice company as well :)

Escaping Oxford Street and testing the Caesar salad at The Wallace Restaurant

A few days ago I met up with Cecilia and her baby Sofia in the heart of London at Oxford Street. We decided that we should go to the Wallace collection for lunch. Just 3 minutes walk away from Oxford Street you find this lovely restaurant. The restaurant is lovely with lost of space and it has a glass ceiling (so it feels as you are sitting outside).

I give the Caesar salad 6/10. It was a too dry, should have had more dressing.

The perfect Caesar Salad Dressing

Homemade Caesar Salad Dressing is easy to do and only takes 10 minutes to prepare.

Start to check that you have the ingredients at home. I always use a mixer when I prepare the dressing, but you can do it with just a whisk as well.

Ingredients for Caesar Salad Dressing
2 egg yolks
1 tablespoon white wine vinegar
1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
2 teaspoon lemon juice
2-4 anchovies, chopped
1 large garlic clove, chopped
3 dl* rapeseed oil
1/2 dl finely grated parmesan cheese
salt
pepper
water

*1 cup=2,36 dl

Mix all ingredients except the rapeseed oil and spices. Slowly add the oil while you are mixing the dressing. The colour will go from yellow to white. Last bit to add is the parmesan cheese. And just add water if you want the dressing to be thinner.

The Caesar at Posthotellet in Göteborg

It took me three attempts to be able to order a Caesar salad when I was in Sweden last week. I found out that it was impossible to get a Caesar in Båstad and that you can't order a half Caesar salad at Götas Bar in Göteborg. Half, that really should be possible for most chefs to do.

The third attempt was at the new and very big Posthotellet near the train station in Göteborg. The restaurant Norda had Caesar on the menu and it was great. The whole experience eating there was fantastic, amazing staff, good service, delicious bread etc etc.

I give the Caesar: 9/10

One of the big tables you can book for dinners.

The bread was amazing.

The Caesar itself, they called it red Caesar salad, I've no idea why.

Chicken Salad with Caesar dressing - almost but not really a Caesar Salad :)

I went for lunch today with my ex-colleagues at the Union in Chiswick park. Great to see them again and hear what they have been up to.

My lunch choice was a Chicken Salad with Caesar dressing, that was the closest I could come to Caesar Salad. (even if it was not called a Caesar Salad I am writing about it here - you have to move out of your comfort zone into your stretch zone every now and then :)

The salad was absolutely fine, but it had a whole bush of rocket leaves in it. I find rocket very bitter and just a few of them would have been enough. The dressing was decorating the avocado and not the whole salad, a bit strange... And it had feta instead of parmesan, which works absolutely fine for me. The chicken, the rest of the leaves, avocado and tomatoes were all perfect.

My question to them is: Why don't you serve Caesar Salad - proper one? You have potential.

At the Hop Poles in Hammersmith - really nice Caesar Salad

Almost every Tuesday I go to Toastmaster Athenians meetings at The Hop Poles in Hammersmith. Toastmaster is a world wide public speaking club and Athenians is one of the best clubs in London.

Of course I've tried the Caesar Salad at The Hop Poles a few times an I would give them a good average rating. It's tasty, fresh chicken, perfect dressing, but I think they have misunderstood the thing with the bread, you don't want that much bread... (or maybe it's just me?)

Louise and I trying out the Caesar salad at Cork & Bottle

After having a glass of wine outside at Gordon's wine bar we decided that it was time to have dinner. My imagination went all the way to Leicester square and Cork & Bottle.

When I looked at the menu I saw the Caesar salad, yam, Caesar it is. I haven't had a Caesar salad since mid Feb, so it was about time.

We both ordered Caesar and it turns out that Louise is a fan as well :)

This Caesar was something extraordinary, perfect size, perfect chicken and a great dressing. The dressing had a touch of chili in it, and it was very tasty.
